Why I decided to stop buying video games

This year I started earning money from various jobs .I work hard for the money I earn and I save my money I think of a number of things I could spend it on.Last week my brother and I looked in to buying a brand new video game system. We gathered up are PlayStation 2 +accessories and are x-box +accessories all that + 19 games and we took them to the store to trade them in.

when we arrived at the store we were given 103$ CREDIT. with are credit and money we had with us we could not afford a used system.Disappointed we went home to price a new system

We began to talk about are little adventure with are dad it turns out that my brother and I had spent 650$ on the systems we had just turned in using the original purchase price and comparing it with credit we received,we calculated an 84% depreciation in value. This means we only kept 16 cents from every dollar we spent on video games.

This is a Major rip of.Aside from the fact we were going to chase are lose by buying a brand new system for approximately five hundred and fifty dollars. We recognized the lost time associated with playing the games. That is a one hundred % deprecation in value there for we will right of are financial loss and find better things to do with are money and time.

???have you thought about what your doing with your time and where your moneys going???

Ipod’s VS Cd Player’s

Ipod’s and cd player’s are two different things. But in some ways they are the same. They both play music and run on electricity but those are the only similarities between them.

Cd player’s are large bulky hard to store need Cds but they are hard to break and have unlimited space, and are good if you want it in one place only or can’t afford an Ipod.

Unlike the large and bulky cd players ipods are small, portable, compact, don’t need cd’s , and have more space. Unlike the durable cd players ipods are easier to break and have limited space.

They Both Have Their differences but ipod’s are more popular but cd player’s are still used today but not as much as they were years ago.

Question which one is better why or why not

cell phones at school

By:Nicole Jolink class:71

Cell phones at school sounds like a pretty good idea to most people, right? Well what if you lost your cell phone at school or someone stole it. Guess who would be getting you a new one. What happens if you cheat on a test by making a note to yourself on your cell phone. That would defiantly get you a big goose egg. What if you were texting a friend in the middle of class because the teacher is teaching a lame, boring lesson. Well if you want to know what could happen keep reading.

When you don’t pay attention in class then you will start getting worse and worse marks. But what if you were talking to a friend on your cell phone then that means not only you but the friend on the other line isn’t paying attention either. Then if you start getting failing test and projects then your parents will take something away like your cell phone and they will say something like this” using your cell phone is a privilege and once your grades get back up we will give you your cell phone back”. So maybe its best if you pay attention in class.

Cheating on test we have all done it in some shape or form. But have you ever thought on cheating on a test through your cell phone that will not only give you a zero on another test say bye bye to your cell phone because this time your parents don’t have it the teacher does. So cheating on test is off the list.

The same lame excuse it’s just in my jacket I left it at school its fine. But when they find out you lost it then that’s no good then you will have to make posters saying ”lost if fine please call….” I think you get the picture. Better go buy a new cell phone that looks just like the old one and tell your parents you found it.

As a result if may not be the best idea to bring a cell phone to school because every time you will end up getting the cell phone taken away. So that is what your consequence is for taking that cell phone to school. But at least you know what would happen if you take the cell phone to school. Personally I don’t think I would take my cell phone to school. So just remember these thoughts if you want to take your cell phone to school.

Question

Do you think that cell Phone in school is a good idea? Why or why
not
.

Computers vs TVs

TV’s and computers are the most used electronics in every day life. Both computers and TV’s entertain people but after they are plugged in. TV’s and computers both help us in our every day lives for e.g. we can use TV’s and computers are the most used electronics in television to see what the weather will be like today, tomorrow or in the rest of the week. We can use computers for work, research or projects. Both TVs and computers can have surround sound to play music or any other additions. Also we can always learn from both.

I think TVs are used more often in comparison to computers because you can watch more shows on television. TVs have different types of shows such as: comedy, horror, soap operas, sports, cartoons, weather, news, and movies. Yes movies. Movies are the watched on TV’s or in movie theaters. Also if you add cable to your TV you can watch the latest movies. Anyway TV’s are not just for watching you can also play games on it, once you have plugged in a game system that is. Some of them are: game cube, ps2, ps3, Xbox, Xbox 360, and the wii. So once you have a system you need games and there are too many to list. Yes you might think TV’s just rot your mind with nonsense and are just for entertainment but you can also exercise on the wii. Yes you might think “what are you talking about?” what I mean is if you buy a game for you wii you can also exercise because there are sports dancing and aerobics. Why not it out for yourself!

On the other hand computers are the most voluble think you may use in every day life. For not only can you use it for work, games, and research but also for communication. Yes there are easy way to communicate with other people. One way is to use e-mail. Another is by connecting msn, hotmail, yahoo or any other web sites were you can chat with your friends or other people. You can also visit any web site you can type in, mostly if you go to Google. Also even on computers you can watch movie and videos, not only that but you can play games. There are too many things on the computer to see, so have fun.

In conclusion there are so many things to do on both computer and TV. Most people can’t go one day without watching a movie or playing a game. One of the most addicting things on a computer is e-mail. People check there e-mail every day and it becomes addictive. For TVs there are a lot of shows and kids get glued to the TV while watching. Still these to electronics are very entertaining and we are lucky to use them so enjoy.

Q. So if we have all this entertainment and what will we do when we run out of electricity and have no power to use these objects?

HOW AIRPLANES HELP PEOPLE!

Airplanes help a lot because they go faster so they can get to they scene faster they a car or boat. They also help in wars like in world war two they help a lot like in Africa they help the soldiers on the ground by shooting rockets and shooting and dropping bombs on they enemy the planes they mostly used were spitfire, hurricane’s, and lightening. Also a very special plane called the dam buster (Lancaster) helped in WW2 to. Planes don’t always are in wars they are also help transport people and mail. They are also privet jets they mostly get used by business or rich people. They mail business has gone a long way because the first man to start it was an African American was the one how started it. That is a little things about how airplanes help people. Question:how have airplanes helped you in your live?

How Computers Have Changed Over Time

Over time, computers have been evolving and changing. Some of the newer websites have some positive and negative effects on our lives.

One of the many bad effects on the computer is that kids are spending too much time on them and are getting addicted to sites, such as, online games, downloaded games and many others. In consequence they are losing daily physical activity each day.

Another bad thing about the computer is that kids might be putting too much personal information on their sites (myspace and facebook). Doing this can be very dangerous and could let strangers know more about yourself, such as where you live and what school you go to, and where you live.

Some of the positive effects from the computer is that computers, such as laptops are much more portable, and now there is highspeed, which makes computers load quicker. Computers can also have sites with facts that help us with homework too.

We should all try to use the computer less and get more physical activity, and even turn it off when it is not being used to save energy, and as an overall result, kids are gaining much more weight.

Question: In your opinion, are kids spending too much time on the computer? Explain using information from the text and your own ideas.
How the Electric Guitar Changed Music

Music today is always changing. One very big change was when the electric guitar was born in 1930…creating jazz and blues.

The electric guitar was invented before rock; as a result, other music was being played. The genres of music have changed a lot because of the electric guitar
. Another big change that the electric guitar made on peoples lives was that many more people would start listening to rock, blues, jazz, pop rock and metal. So without the electric guitar we would not have any of these genres of music.

A lot of bands became a big hit because everyone was into rock and blues. Everyone was dieing to see a rock concert! The electric guitar made people think of music in so many different ways. They could relate this new style of music to past experiences and the sound made people rebellious and over joyful, making rock what it is.

Another good result of the electric guitar was the hole new design of clothes that the music suggested and even the pure beauty of the electric guitar. It was so fashionable to have a glamy Les Paul and have a leather jacket or purple feathered coat with white boots. I mean no matter what, you had to come on stage with a power slide then light your guitar on fire like Jimi Hendrix. Its just another thing that the electric guitar did to music even right now when my dad is showing me
all these classic rock songs that he used to listed to back in the 70s.

I think the electric guitar was probably one of the best things that ever happened to music. So it goes to show, good things come with strings and picks.

New Question- Why do you think there is such thing as a guitar solo. Why not a bass solo? Would you prefeer a guitar or bass solo?

HOW DO CELL PHONES MAKE OUR LIVES EASIER
About 80% of people have a cell phone from ages 16 and up, and almost all of them say cell phones are great. Cell phones help make our lives easier by allowing us to communicate when we are away from home. They could even save our lives by being able to contact someone in an emergency.

When you have a cell phone its like have a phone attached to you were ever you go. You can help others out too by lending them your phone to make important calls. Cell phones are very helpful to have in work so they can tell you what’s happening or where to go for a meeting. Cell phones are considered to be stylish to many people with its stunning appearance. Cell phones are a good thing to have on the go because you can communicate to other cell phones and land line phones. Therefore they are the ultimate phone.

Cell phones can be used to communicate two ways which is text messaging and calling. With text messaging you can communicate to other cell phones even if they are not on (they will get them when it turns on) text messaging doesn’t coast much neither does calling, as a result it wont coast you a lot of money.

While driving you can be given directions to a destination safest and best way possible, also cell phones can be very safe enjoyable and hand free too. When you are driving you can charge your cell phone so you will never miss a call/message. Some cell phones can navigate you to your destination.

Cell phones are handy to have with you, if there is an emergency at home or a loved one you can be reached or can reach someone, in consequence you can help out with what ever it is. But if you don’t have a cell phone you won’t be able to reach it in time or know about it. Children can also use cell phones in a positive way to talk to their family/friends if something comes up and they can’t be where they are supposed to be. They can help you in confusing time’s ex. Lost and need directions or give or get information.

Cell phones are also very convenient too in as you already know one they can be reached easily in two ways. Two helpful to have around in case of an emergency. Three stylish, finally they are not expensive, therefore they are supreme. They can help you with just about anything.

1. Should kids have cell phones? Why?

Technology Assignment on windmills

Electric Running turbine windmills play a big part in todays society. A turbine windmill farm can give electricity to a town of 50 000 people therefore saving a lot of energy, without having to use fossil fuels. Seeing as there are tons of windmill farms across Canada that saves us a lot of energy as a result of this we do not have to burn up fossil fuels.

The turbine windmills do not pollute the environment because they are a renewable resource. The turbine windmills run of wind which as a result of being put beside running water. The churning water creates wind which blows into the windmills Which makes them turn and create electricity without burning fossil fuels.

The good thing about the windmills is that we save money because we don’t have to Import energy to power our buildings. Just like how we have to import oil and Other fossil fuels to power machines. So therefore with windmills we make our own Energy with out having to import.

On the bad side of things is that over the years that we have had windmills there have been hundreds of dead birds that have flown into the blades. Birds like seagulls get Memorized by the white propellers and fly into them making the bird population Drop a lot.

Despite the fact that windmills kill birds they are very environmentally friendly. I think that windmills are very helpful when it comes to saving energy, as well as with many other things.

How do you think windmills helped people before they generated energy?

Technology Assignment: Ipods Vs. Mp3s

A very popular question these days is which music player is better, Ipods or Mp3s? They both play music and some have a screen which allows the user to scroll. They both can be used as a radio and need to be charged. But which one has more value?

Mp3s have a voice recorder but they don’t have any special features after that. Mp3s don’t come in many varieties either, although they do come with a range of memory to choose from.

On the other hand, with the Ipods that have screens, they are bigger. Some can even play videos (movies, shows, clips etc.) and games. There are more exciting features available on Ipods. Some Ipods even have Wi- Fi (internet)! There is a huge variety of Ipods from Ipod Shuffles to one of the newer Ipods such as the Ipod Touch. Ipods have a huge range of memory from 1 GB to 160 GB!

Although the Ipods and Mp3s are very popular and are used very often for multiple purposes, the Ipod brand has more to give because it is more unique with many more options and features to choose from. So if it came down to buying a music player I would pick an Ipod.

In your opinion, which music player is better Ipods or Mp3s? Why? Use information from the text and your own ideas.
What is the Difference between a cell phone and a cordless phone?
Article by: Marissa Savelli

Cell phones and cordless phones are very similar but yet still have many differences. They both have important uses in ones life but can both also cause problems. A rather large issue with cell phones is having a driver talking on one while driving a car. This is a very big distraction and could cause an accident. There are also many other problems, but we will get into that later. A common problem with cordless phones is that sometimes they can become very large. Technology can be a great thing but we must learn how to use it properly and safely.

Other then just bad things there are also good things about cordless and cell phones. They can both get to a fairly small size. They are both portable, and the most obvious is that they are both used to be talked on. They are very similar because they both have many different companies that each phone comes from, and each phone can carry a phone book of all the phone numbers that you want to remember. Unfortunately in common, they can both kill brain cells if they are used for too long and they can both be damaged or broken if they are ever dropped. They are similar in both good and bad ways.

Aside from being all similar there are also many differences between the two types of phones. Unlike the cell phone a cordless phone can be large, but may be a better price. By contrast some cordless phones may not have screens and can flash when ringing. The cordless phone will have different ring tones then the cell phone would or will have. On the other hand cordless phones can be brought around the house but may lose the signal if taken outside. The cordless phone is a convenient phone to have.

We have talked about cordless phones so now we can talk about cell phones. Unlike the cordless phones, the cell phone can get very small and also very pricy. On the cell phone you can have different ring tones, can have text messaging and can put movies and pictures on some. They can get very skinny and can be put in your pocket. A great point to bring up is that a cell phone will often NOT drop the signal. Cell phones are great to have because they are small and great to carry around.

In conclusion, both phones are helpful and are great for just chatting with friends. Both have there ups and downs but always useful. Cell phones are great for going out of the house and carrying around with you when you are out. Cordless phones are great for at home but you can carry it around your house with you and do not have to stay in one spot. They are always changing technology and phones will always be getting better.
Question:
In the future there will probably not be cordless phones anymore. Will there just be cell phones or will there be a new an improved technology? What do you think? Explain.

The Ipods
The ipods have been around for a few years now,
And in there few years the ipod has improved a lot. From being smaller, to having more memory for more songs. I will be talking about all these improvements.
First off we have the ipod classic,
The ipod classic was a very first ipod to have ever hits stores. Its was fairly big a lot of memory. With this it had some games, a clock and a touch adaptor that you could switch the songs with and also the volume. But none of this was new when the ipod nano hit stores, for its second release of the ipod.
The Ipod Nano,
As the ipod came alone they released the ipod nano. The ipod nano is much smaller then the ipod classic, but with all the same features, just not as much memory. Now the thing I think is that the ipod nano came out with this big verity of different colures (red, blue, green). I think the different colures made them more popular to the buyers. But this wasn’t the last of the Ipods. Soon after the ipod video came to stores.
The Ipod Video,
The Ipod Video was a big hit, the ipod video came with a video feature, witch lets you watch videos on your ipod. With tones of memory, this ipod is the the most popular yet.But after this it was the ipod shuffle. For its forth release of the ipod.

The Ipod Shuffle,

the ipod shuffle is the only ipod that doesnt have a touch feature for vloume and change of song, but with this it is the smallest yet.The ipod shuffle has less memory, the ipod shuffle only big new feature is how small it is. But soon after the Ipod shuffle came out, the best ipod ever to be release came.

The Ipod Touch,

the ipod touch has a touch screen, and the first ipod to have internet asses and everything you could want in a ipod, with tones of memory and lots of games and attractions.

The ipods have gone through many inprovements, with still many to come the ipods are a big success.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN IF IPODS WERE NEVER MADE?

How Ipods have changed over time

By: Alex Hood

Since the first ipod was made there have been many more models with more and better features, colours, styles and sizes. There have been more then 10 styles of ipods made and they just keep getting better.

First, in 2001 the ipod came out. It was white, had a click/scroll wheel, but no colour on the screen. After that ipod came out another one did. This one came out in 2003 and had mostly the same features still white, has a scroll / click wheel, but this time there was colour on the screen and had 4 buttons above the click/scroll wheel. It also had a dock connector.

The next ipod that came out was still called the ipod, in 2004. It had a click wheel, a hold switch (goes with turning it on and off) and monochrome display also large in size. Then the ipod mini came out, but it wasn't so mini. It came in colours; silver blue, green and pink. It also had a click wheel and came out in 2004.

The fifth ipod that came out was called an ipod shuffle, it was long, skinny and white with no screen. It also had a USB connector. Then the 2nd version of the ipod shuffle came out it was a small square and came in blue, pink, green and silver in 2006. Next they came out with an ipod nano, it was smaller then the mini and had a screen with colour, click wheel and came in black and white with a mirror on the back (2005). After the first ipod nano, there was a second it was a rectangle and came in silver, pink, blue, black, green and had a hold switch also a dock connector. Then came another generation of the ipod, it was large, wide and had colour display. Video’s and pictures were also available to be put on, in 2006.

The 3rd ipod nano came out in 2007 it was a wide rectangle, could play movies, come in blue, red, silver and black. The latest ipod that came out is the ipod touch, its 3.5 Inches, web access, search and buy songs and came in black in 2008.

In conclusion, i think that there is a lot of different features on ipods and more keep coming out because there are a lot of new features. There has been many versions of ipods and it seems they are alike in many ways, and there are going to be many more to come, they are going to change in a big way, but technology is changing everyday too.

With as many versions of ipods that have already come out, do you think its worth putting more out as technology changes over time?

The Wii

The Nintendo Wii is a video game system with motion sensing. Motion Sensing is when the Wii sensor Bar will automatically detect the movements of the Wii Remote™.

The Wii Remote is a device that has a camera built into it, which detects the Infrared LEDs emitted from the Sensor Bar. When the Wii Remote sees the LEDs it can estimate where the Television is, thus having a pointer on the screen that can select things. The Wii can also detect motion that isn’t pointing at something, such as the movement of the Wii remote like a Baseball bat, or a golf club. In some instances, the Wii Remote is an Improvement of the Power Glove.

The Wii has proved to be good competition for actual outdoor activity, which has caused quite a controversy. Many people are mad about this, but the truth is, sports Video Games have existed since way before the Wii. So the Wii Sports is just a more fun way to play.Like most, if not all, video game systems, the Wii was unveiled at E3, the ELECTRONICS ENTERTAINMENT EXPO, Which is a Game Convention somewhere in California.

The Wii developed a huge interest from gamers, and is the best selling system from this generation.

So in conclusion, the Wii is a unique and interesting system and quite a big competition for the Playstation 3 and the X-Box 360, especially with that low price tag of $270. Check it out at your local Video Games Retailer.

Question: Is the Wii doing a Good thing for Gamers or lowering their interest in outdoor activity?

Cell Phones Vs. Landline Phones

Cell phones Vs. Landline Phones

Have you ever gone to a store and wondered if you should buy a cell phone or a regular landline phone? Well maybe after this article you will have a better idea of which one to buy. Cell phones and landline phones are both really neat and useful inventions. However, they are very different and alike in many ways. So which are better cell phones or landline phones?

First, I will tell you about some similarities between cell phones and landline phones. For one, they are both used to call people and they cost money for long distance calls. In addition, they both use electricity when you call or press any button and they both have numbers used to call. Also, you can have call display on both cell phones and landline phones. Another similarity is it’s always free to call 911, you never have to pay. Lastly, they’re both phones whether they’re cell phones or landline phones they are both phones. And those are some similarities between cell phones and landline phones.

On the other hand, cell phones and landline phones are very different. First, I will talk about cell phones; cell phones are neat because they have more features like games, ringers, cameras, texting, videos and lots more. Also, all cell phones need to be charged and it costs money to call and text. In additioin, cell phones are smaller and are portable compared to landline phones. Another difference is that cell phones are newer technology compared to landline phones. And those are some things about cell phones that are different from landline phones.

In comparison to cell phones, landline phones are very different. For one, some landline phones need to be charged, but not all phones need to be, some have cords. Unlike cell phones, close calls don’t cost money and you have to pay for call display. Also, landline phones are larger and aren’t portable. If you bring even the cordless phones far away from the house they don’t work. Another difference is that landline phones are older technology in comparison to cell phones.

Overall, cell phones have more features, are newer, are portable and I would say overall better. However, landline phones are great too because they don’t cost as much money as cell phones in the long run. So if you’re going to a store and you can’t decide between a cell phone or a landline phone, maybe now you will know which one is better for you.

Question: In your opinion, which are better cell phones or landline phones? Why?
How Technology Effects Sports Performance

In every sport, technology plays a big role in the way you train. It could be weight lifting, running on a treadmill or using computers to track your golf swing. With out technology, no one would ever improve at the sport they play.

Because of this new technology, golfers have taken full advantage. Golfers are probably the biggest technology users in the sporting world. These guys have thought of every thing. They have special tees to take your slice out of your swing. There is also a golf club called a medicus club. This club actually bends if you swing it wrong! Also there is a vest on your swing. Like I said, golfers have thought of every thing.

As a result of this amazing technology, treadmills have been specially designed to skate on. Bow flex machines have also biggest advancement in technology.
They have a new system of moving the weights with less resistance so you don’t get hurt

Technology has affected Basketball as well. There are things that you can strap to your shoes that make you jump higher. They are shoe soles that have springs in them but they also have weights in them. It is one of the most genius piece of technology ever made. They work by pushing you up with the springs and pulling you down with the weights. Like I said, it is an amazing piece of technology.

This is some examples of how Technology affects sports performance. There are also many other ways that it helps you perform. Without technology, now one would ever improve the sport they play.

Question:

Do you think there are any medical problems you might need to worry about with this technology? If you think so, what are they
?
VENDING MACHINES VS. STORES

Stores have been around for thousands of years and vending machines have only been in this world for about fifty years but are they really easier and more efficient? During the time that you read this, it will talk about the similarities and differences of both vending machines and stores, it will talk about which ones cheaper so you save money, which one has a bigger variety, and which ones more reliable.

Vending machines and stores have only a couple things in common such as they both sell food products (even though there not always fresh). To use them you have to pay for both. Finally they both need to be restocked every time the product runs, runs low, or goes bad.

Some differences between vending machines and stores are as follows: vending machines are run by machine, unlike stores where they are run by human being. Vending machine products can get stuck on the way out they also are pretty cheap. Vending machines are also pretty dangerous all it takes to tip it over is to give it a little push. They also have very little security (you can brake the glass and get the chips). Vending machines don’t have a large variety, unlike which has a variety of foods, drinks, and exotic fruits.

On the other hand, stores are always ran be humans. People in stores can make mistakes but they are easily corrected in comparison to machines. Stores usually have a lot more of a variety then vending machines. Stores are a lot bigger giving you more room to maneuver while choosing your chips such as dill pickle, sun chips, sweet chili heat, salt and vinegar, Thai chicken, and all dressed. Stores will never fall over because they are built into the ground, unlike vending machines which just takes a little nudge to topple it. Stores usually take longer to get the product you want because you have to wait in a line, by contrast to vending machines which are a lot quicker.

Overall, I think that vending machines are easier and quicker even though you might have less of a variety but they are also usually cheaper. Stores can be fast but they are also more expensive. Also you only have to put the money in press a button and then you get your product.

1. If had time and had a choice of going to a vending machine or a store which would choose?

2. If there were no vending machines what difference would it make in the world today?

The extremely shortened history of the computer
And …
How they have changed over time

Have you ever needed to lookup information? I know a lot of people would go directly to a computer for the fast and easy way of doing research. Did you ever think of how computers have changed over time? We certainly didn’t wake up one morning and invent the laptop, or did we?

The very first computer didn’t happen that way; many of the very first computers could fill a whole room. Though the first computer, made in 1936 by Konrad Zuse, only had enough hard drive space to store 64 words, it was still a mile stone in computing history. (On a side note, programs couldn’t be downloaded by this computer; they had to be read off large punch cards (shown), and couldn’t be saved, every time the cards instructions had to be reread.)
After many ‘punch card’ computers a break through was made in 1981.
This computer was on of the first to be called a PC (personal computer) and mildly looked like the modern computers; with a relatively small monitor (the screen) and a detached keyboard placed close-by. This computer had an operating system called ‘Microsoft basic’ and it’ data storage device was a cassette tape (floppy disk drives were optional).

That same year an operating system that was popular up to the year 1995 was released (some say it is even widely used today). It was called the DOS (disk operating system) and it is the core of all ‘windows’ operating systems (it is even in the most recent addition, ‘Vista’). The DOS program was completely words; white words on a black background, with no images (or GUI, the graphic user interface).

In the following years the DOS evolved into windows and ‘Apple’ released the ‘Lisa’ and the ‘Macintosh’ (or Mac., as it’s usually called) in the 1983s and ‘84s.
In 1985, the ‘war’ between ‘windows’ and ‘apple’ starts and recently a set of humorous commercials for ‘Macintosh’ were released and aired on many TV channels. The ads point out ‘vista’s ‘obvious’ flaws, and frankly I agree, with having first hand experience.

(And on a side note the first computer game was made in 1961, and yes, you guessed it, the game was based on aliens and spaceships. It was called ‘Space Wars’)

I think that computers have changed so much, and are so different that they can hardly be called just computers. I guess it’s just another example of how humans (and their technology) have changed over time.
I think that the creation of the computer and its progress has done wonders to help human lives, to analyze, find information, contact people and much more.

Question…

Do you think the development and continuation of computers and computer programs have helped people? Why?

Cell Phones

Cell phones, the latest craze everyone seems to be using them. Everyone from about age 12 all the way up to 50 year olds. In fact there is an estimated 100 million people in the world who carry cell phones. But do we know what they can do to us?

Cell phones give off microwaves, the same thing found in microwaves and x-rays. These microwaves are the same as ionizing gamma rays. If these rays are absorbed by the tissue (E.g. The brain or muscle) therefore you have high risk of developing cancer, a result of cancer could be serious permanent damage or it could even lead to death.

Cell phones also can develop very large brain tumors as a result of the cell phones letting off these microwaves and ionizing gamma rays in every direction. So because of the cell phone being pressed against your ear microwaves are given off directly into your brain therefore giving you a high risk for a brain tumor.

In conclusion there is no evidence that cell phones give you the cancer or brain tumor. They only give you a really high risk of developing the cancer or brain tumor. I’m happy I don’t have a cell phone!!

Question:
With the evidence in this text would you still buy a cell phone if you could? Using information from the text and your own ideas explain why or why not?

They are also very convenient too in as you already know one they can be reached easily in two ways. Two helpful to have around in case of an emergency. Three stylish, finally they are not expensive, therefore they are supreme. They can help you with just about anything.

1. Would you and to have a cell phone?
2. Are cell phones hard to work?
3. Should kids have cell phones?
4. Are all cell phones cheap?
5. Could cell phones help me?
6. what would happen if there were no cell phones?

Techonolgy Assignment: Ipods Vs. MP3s

Ipods Vs. Mp3s
By: Jennifer Browne 71

Do you know what everyone’s talking about? Well it’s the Ipods vs. MP3 theory again. Everybody probably thinks that an Ipod is better because it’s newer but sometimes an MP3 is just as good.

Unlike the MP3 the Ipod is newer and holds way more songs. An Ipod has lots of features like being able to hold videos or have Internet access(some). The Ipod also has a bigger screen than an MP3. When you get an Ipod there is like 2-80 GB.

In comparison to the Ipod an MP3 is just as good. It has a smaller screen but its pocket size. When you get an MP3 it has 1-10 GB. Even though it’s older it still holds music and has some extra features.

They both have to be charged and you have to download the music from Itunes. Also the technology on both the Ipod and the MP3 keeps improving.

In conclusion both the Ipod and MP3 are good music players.

Question

1) Why does the World of Music keep changing?

The Evalution of Ipods

The Evalution of Ipods over the years By: Connie Mac 71

Over the years, technology has grown, expanded and improved. There are many amazing things we can do now because of technology. But what I want to talk about is: The evalution of Ipods over the years. The ipod has been upgraded many times and each large change is called a “generation”. Each model has few or several generations.

Ipod Classic
The Ipod Classic has 6 generations. The first generation of the Classic was released on October 23 2001, Apples first model. Since then, the models have changed designs, capacity has become larger and battery life as well.

Ipod Mini

The Ipod Mini has only 2 generations and is similar to the Ipod Classic except it comes in 5 colours, and capacity is not as large. The mini only survives about a year before it is replaced by the Ipod Nano.

Ipod Nano

The Nano has 3 generations and has a similar design like the Mini, but more rectangular. The third generation however is almost shaped like a square, not like its earlier generations. The Nano is available in 6 colours.

Ipod Shuffle

The shuffle has 2 generations and was released around the time the Nano was released. This model has no screen at all and has a small capacity of 1 GB or 2GB. It comes in 5 colours.

Ipod Touch

The Ipod Touch has 1 generation so far and is the first with a Multi-Touch face. The screen is much larger than earlier models and has wireless access to the itunes store and Youtube. It also has a large capacity, with 5 hours of video.

Overall each model and generation has only improved and satisfied customers. Apples dedication to expanding and improving the Ipod series has paid off. By September 2007, the Ipod has sold over 150 million units worldwide making it the best selling digital audio player series in history. Whether it’s the Classic or the Nano that you like, it comes down to this:
SHOULD I GET AN IPOD?

MORE QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF:

Do you think Ipods are better than mp3’s?
Which model do you think is the best? Why?
Why do you think Ipods are so popular?
Do you agree that Ipods improve your life?

I pods vs. CD's

I pods vs. CD’s
Tuesday, May, 20

Music is a very popular activity in many people’s lives and the ways to play music are always changing. I pods and CD’s are just two of the ways that people play music. Though Ipods and CD's are both music players there are many differences to them as well.

I pods are a very popular way of playing music and they have many features that CD’s don’t like: I pods are very portable and are much smaller than CD’s. They can also store thousands of songs in a smaller space. I pods need a computer to download songs onto them. As well as playing songs they can also play music videos. I pods are a rectangular shape and aren’t that delicate and can’t break or scratch. I pods of course need to be charged every so often.

CD’s are still a very popular way to play music and have definitely replaced the tape. CD’s are different from I pods because they are a disk form and are much easier
to break and scratch.
CD’s are also less portable and need a big machine to play them. Sometimes the machine can malfunction so that is not good if you are short on money. CD’s can only play music yet don’t need to be charged. The machine has to plugged in though so if you don’t have an outlet on a camping trip you can’t play them.

The similarities of these two different ways to play music are they both play music. Also even though I pods are more popular there is still good availability for CD’s. They both can have speakers plugged into them so you can listen privately on your own.

I pods are definitely the most popular and useful of the music players and are slowly but surely passing the CD’s in popularity. In comparison the CD is no match for the Ipod anymore.

Question:
Why do you think music is so important in most families lives?

Technology Assignment:The Effects of Guitar Hero on Potential Guitarists

In 2005, video game developer Harmonix released the rhythm game Guitar Hero. The game has become very popular, and has two sequels (Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock). It has been on most major video game consoles such Playstation 2, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii, and PC. It has become quite competitive, with people trying to break records and playing online. But how is it effecting whether people play real guitar?

One effect can be that the person enjoys the feeling of playing guitar and wants to play it for real. They usually play once in a while for fun, and use it to practice rhythm, timing and finger speed.

On the other hand, some people chose to play Guitar Hero to get an easy feeling of playing guitar. These people are sometimes too lazy to put in the practice to play real guitar. As a result, they often take the game too seriously, and therefor may be susceptible to becoming obsessed.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with Guitar Hero, but it is how some people take the game. Some people take it too seriously, waste all their time playing the game. They are too lazy to put in an effort, but the lazy people wouldn’t play real guitar anyway. I think Guitar Hero is a fun game that is positively effecting whether people play guitar, as long as people take it for what it is: A Game.

Do you think whether people play a musical instrument has been effected by rhythm games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band? Explain why or why not using information from the text and your own ideas.

Laptops and open internet access

The topic of providing access for all students to laptops and internet and its effect on improving student learning is an interesting and multi-dimensional consideration. The quick answer to this for most young people who gravitate to technology would be yes, and this may in fact be the broad answer. However, there are many considerations that must be looked at before making a final determination.
As we consider the possible benefits of this issue, we must also be aware that there is another side to this. Given that technology is developing so rapidly, many computers are becoming obsolete faster. With this in mind, creating millions if not billions of new laptops for student use will ultimately use many of the world's resources and result in piles of old computers needing to find a final resting place. So, learning aside, there may be some other valid considerations which may have a place in the discussion.
This main question however, is one which others around the world have considered. To this end, Nicholas Negraponte has initiated the "One Laptop per Child" project. The thrust of their work is to provide inexpensive laptops ($100) to children in developing countries around the world. WalMart is apparently set to offer similar ($169) laptops in the next few months. So, this "dream" may be closer than we think.
I invite bloggers to visit the link below to look into the Negraponte Project as they consider their answer to this question.

Let's Get Started . . .

Welcome to our class blog. We will be using this blog to discuss various issues concerning technology in our lives.

You will be responsible for:

1. Writing one article about a technology issue, using any one of the four organizational patterns that we have learned about in class. Your article must contain your conclusions about this issue. You also need to ask either an inferential or evaluative question that your classmates may respond to. You will use the Post option at the bottom of the page to add your article to our blog.

2. Responding to at least two of your classmate’s articles using better answers format. You will use the Comment option at the end of each article to respond.

3. Helping classmates with technology. (I found it difficult to insert pictures and get them where I wanted in this text!)

Here is my article and my question that you may respond to. I have used the Problem/Solution organizational pattern, and highlighted the words that I need to use to make this pattern work.

Teaching With Technology Can Be Challenging

by J. Staats

As our world changes due to rapid advancements in technology, our students’ needs are also changing. Never before has there been a group of students who are able to access unbelievable amounts of information and mass media just by pushing a few buttons. With the technology skills that most students have, there is a great opportunity to use technology in teaching in order to make learning more interesting and interactive. However, sometimes using technology can cause big problems.

One of the problems that teachers encounter is not knowing all that much about technology. In teaching with it, they may find themselves in a situation where there is a good chance that students know more about the technology that is being used than they do. This requires a change in the traditional role of the teacher. It is a movement from expert to facilitator or leader, and a shift that may involve an uncomfortable loss of control. From my perspective, the solution is to be honest with students and tell them exactly what is going on. Also, there are many technology related inservices that teachers can attend to learn more.

Related to the issue of not being an expert, there is the issue of potential ‘landmines’ that may arise in the course of learning a new way of teaching. With the traditional way of teaching, most teachers figure out fairly quickly what catastrophic issues may arise. However, with something new, they never know exactly what may arise. One thing that I learned this morning was that even with the filters and blocks that we have on our system at school, it is possible to access blogs with inappropriate content. The solution that I put in place this morning was to tell students what was inappropriate content, and to provide the message that my expectation is that they would stay away from it at all times. I learned that I will have to deal with the ‘landmines’ as they arise.

Lastly, and perhaps the worst problem that teachers encounter using technology at school, is the availability of it. Our server is so slow and dated that it often makes working with technology cumbersome. Another issue is the fact that there is not enough equipment. The computer lab at our school is used regularly, and it can be very difficult to book it on short notice. One way around this is to plan ahead. Another way is to allocate fundraising money toward improving technology in the school. We could work toward providing a traveling mini lab (laptops on a cart that could be booked out to classes) with wireless networking provided.

These are just a few of the problems that teachers may encounter upon trying to incorporate more technology into their programs. However, as technology has evolved, I don’t think that there is much choice, if we are to meet the needs of our students and keep them engaged in learning.

Question: If every student had a laptop and wireless internet access at school, do you think that student learning would increase? Why or why not?
